Celebrate 200

Check out this behind the scenes video of us canning the sixth installment in our Norwich University Bicentennial Series, Celebrate 200!

For 200 years, Norwich has changed the lives of thousands of young men and women. Through shared struggle, challenge, a balance of physical, mental and moral education, and a love of country and of each other, we truly found a home on “the Hill.” We also found ourselves. We found a love for our communities and our country which compelled us to lead on the battlefield, in the boardroom, and in our own backyards.

We are excited to be able to Celebrate 200 years of tradition with this limited New England Session IPA brewed with Ekuanot, Citra, and Mosaic hops.

Cheers, and Essayons!

SBA Vermont Small Business Person of the Year

Steve Gagner of 14th Star Brewing Company discusses how SBA helped him expand his business, and how he leverages SBA veterans products to help his fellow veterans.

Humbled yet again, by awards and recognition for the efforts of everyone who makes the magic happen every day at the brewery. This time, it is being named the 2019 Vermont Small Business Person of the Year by the SBA.

I can’t emphasize how much this award not only belongs to our talented team as a whole, but also to Matt, my partner in crime, best friend and co-founder. If we can be proud of anything we have done, it’s showing other businesses that caring for other people FIRST helps the bottom line and makes the business a WIN-WIN for the community.

Thank you for your support of our little brewery!

Cheers,

Brewing Legally Blonde

The 14th Star ladies joined Head Brewer Prescott in the brewhouse for our annual Pink Boots Brew Day!

Legally Blonde (Pink Boots Collaboration 2019)

5.2% ABV, 28 IBU, 4 SRM

A classic Blonde Ale brewed with the 2019 YCH/PinkBoots Hop blend. The Pink Boots Society is an international nonprofit organization that works to support women in the brewing profession  This year’s hop blend features Loral, Glacier, Mosaic, Simcoe, and Sabro varietals. This beer has a low level of earthy bitterness and is light and balanced. With aromas of floral honey, fresh bread dough, and refreshing flavors of subtle fruitiness, you’ll definitely want to have a moment with this one.

Expanding our Distribution

Earlier this month our team visited New York City to officially launch 14th Star in the Big Apple!

We met some great people on our trip and had a blast at our Launch Parties at The Hop Shoppe, The Park Restaurant, The Baroness Bar + Kitchen, The Jeffrey, Black Tap, and Covenhoven.

Check out our 14th Star Finder Map on our website to track down our brews in cans and on tap at locations throughout Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and New York.

Year of Distinction

For the past four years, 14th Star has partnered with Norwich University to create a craft beer as part of their bicentennial celebration.

The fifth installment in our Norwich University Bicentennial Series, Distinction is a single hop IPA featuring the distinct fresh orchard fruit character of Rakau™ hops and a big, but well-rounded bitterness. Check out the video above for a look inside our brewery and the making of this bicentennial beer.

Distinction will premiere at Norwich Homecoming 2018’s Celebrate 200: All-Class Bicentennial Year Launch Party and will be available in the 14th Star Beer Garden outside Plumley Armory Homecoming weekend.

Differentiation. Significance. Reputation. Distinction is sought by many yet achieved by very few. The reason for this is simple: Distinction is difficult. One cannot stumble into distinction. It takes work, determination, and the choice to do the difficult thing simply because it is the thing that will yield results. Life at Norwich University is not easy. Life at Norwich is demanding. Students are challenged at Norwich in ways inconceivable by other institutions of higher learning. It is this challenge, coupled with the students’ decision to accept this challenge, that makes the Norwich experience so unique and produces leaders of character for this ever-changing world.

Expect Challenge. Achieve Distinction. Essayons!

A Homegrown Success!

Last Saturday’s Homegrown Music Festival was something we’d never done before and we had no idea what to expect — so to see so many community members show up in the St. Albans Bay Town Park was an amazing sight!

The bands sounded great, the crowd was awesome, and (with the exception of a brief 15-minute rain shower that had us all ducking for cover) we had beautiful weather.

We want to extend a huge “thank you” to the talented local music acts who performed at the festival; including GypsyWind, Bethany Conner, Troy Millette & Dylan Gumbas, Chris & Erica, and Shake — as well as to the vendors and our 14th Star team for making the event such a success.

We also want to thank all those that came out to the festival, we can’t do what we do without you and your support! Your contributions through beer sales and 50/50 raffle proceeds are being donated to organizations focused on cleaning up our local waterways, including Lake Champlain and Lake Carmi.

We are already planning on making this free all-day outdoor family event an annual tradition with more bands, more food, and more beer!  We hope to see you all next year at the 14th Star Homegrown Music Festival!

Empowering Athletes of All Abilities

We are excited to announce that we have teamed up with Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports (a nationally recognized nonprofit providing sports and recreation opportunities and accessibility for people with disabilities) to help support their year-round programs through sales of our Recruit Golden Ale!

Through our new “Penny a Pour” program a penny from every “pour” (tap, can, keg, etc.) of Recruit will be donated back to Vermont Adaptive to support their mission and programs.

“We’re grateful for our friends in the community who want to give back and support our mission and what we do. We’re looking forward to working with the folks at 14th Star to create more sports opportunities for our participants throughout the state.”
— Jeff Alexander, Vermont Adaptive Director of Strategic Partnerships

Military Times Entrepreneur of the Year

I’m equal parts honored, humbled, and embarrassed to announce that The Military Times has selected me as the inaugural Rebootcamp Entrepreneur of the Year from throughout all of the services.

I’m honored and humbled because this award could’ve gone to any number of veterans who are doing spectacular things with their businesses.

I’m also embarrassed. I feel undeserving of an individual recognition or award since the vast majority of everything we do is handled by the family at 14th Star: From Andrea Gagner, Jill Trombly, Jackie White Hawkins and David Rheaume handling the daily activities, art, leadership and management, to Dan Sartwell and Prescott Stanton and their crew of talented brewers – making some of the most under-rated beer on planet earth, to Bailey Buckley, Renee Laroche-Rheaume, Theo Juaire, Erica Anderson, and the whole cast of bar staff that makes each pint enjoyable, all the way down south to our Boston-area sales guy Dan Johnson who’s telling our story and building the brand… these are the folks that deserve the awards and recognition.

I’m blessed to have had the opportunity to pursue this passion with Matt and for the amazing people we’ve met along our short journey. I’ll accept the award on behalf of our whole team and wanted everyone to know that this award doesn’t signify that we’ve “made it”, but that our journey is just getting started. Thank you for all of your support and “Follow Me!”

Cheers
